The Village has kicked off the Re-engagement Process for the Comprehensive Plan that will look to establish a long-term vision for the community and explore the question: What will Buffalo Grove look like in 2040 and beyond?

The Comprehensive Plan will examine present and future issues of land use, economic development, transportation, housing, natural resources, as well as the Dundee Road and Milwaukee Road corridors.

A comprehensive plan outlines the long-term (15-20 year) vision of a community's desired physical environment and covers issues regarding future land use, development, transportation, housing, economic development, and natural resources.
Buffalo Grove's Comprehensive Plan (2009) is the current comprehensive plan serving the Village. The Prairie View Metra Station Area Plan and the Lake Cook Corridor Market Study and Plan was approved as a component and update to the 2009 Comprehensive Plan. In addition, an amendment was approved in 2023, designating the future land use of the Dundee Road/Arlington Heights Road corridor as mixed-use.
The 2009 Comprehensive Plan has reached the end of its shelf-life. A new modern plan can more accurately reflect the current challenges, complexities, and opportunities facing the Village. An updated plan will also build off and tie together many of the community's past and current initiatives. This includes previous plans such as the Prairie View Metra Station Area Plan and the Lake Cook Corridor Market Study and Plan.

In 2019, Ratio was hired by the Village to spearhead the Comprehensive Plan process. However, due to Covid, evolving market dynamics, and development modifications, the project was put on hold since March 2020.
